This cotton skirt was used as a petticoat. The hem is generously decorated with embroidered lace for a more visible look. The silhouette of the time is created by cinching only the back of the waist to create volume. As with examples of its use at the time, it can be layered under a skirt in autumn and winter, or worn alone in spring and summer. There are rust stains at the front of the waist.
